In 2012, Abu Dhabi Golf Club hosted the European PGA Tour Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship for the 7th consecutive year.

Robert Rock of England overcame one of the strongest fields ever to assemble for a European Tour Event at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championshiop 2012 over a very tough Abu Dhabi Golf Club, to claim his second victory tour.    

Record crowds witnessed Rock overcome 14-time major champion Tiger Woods and current US Open champion Rory McIlroy, who was left to rue a basic rules infringement on day 2, as well as a host of seasoned winners on the world stage.  Heading into the final round tied with Woods on 11 under par, Rock birdied holes two and three, while Woods faltered on holes four and five with bogeys.

This gave Rock a lead that he was never to relinquish, despite late charges from Woods, McIlroy and Graeme McDowell who achieved a hole in one on Hole 12; the third time one of the week. A succession of solid iron shots from Rock on the back nine ensured he was able to keep everyone at bay and lift the biggest title of his career, with a score of 14 under par.
